It’s official – summer is here. (But you’d be forgiven for noticing). Yes, it’s a bit chilly here given it’s the 3rd of June, but that makes no difference to the fantastic range of produce we can offer.

Fruit

PeachesApricots

Flat or ‘donut’ peaches have started. Often a touch hard, so will need a while to be good eating. Apricots, round peaches and nectarines also abundant. Plenty of melons, too, including the first of the watermelons.

CherriesStrawberries

Spanish cherries are a bestseller. British strawberries, too, are eating well although they won’t like this chill. Note that both limes and lemons are short and pricey, but this should ease soon.

Veg

Peas and broad beans are the taste of the summer. Both Continental and native are available. Tomatoes are amazing right now, too, with numerous varieties on offer. See our Seasonal Ingredient feature from a few weeks back. For spuds, there’s some lovely Cornish mids on offer to compliment the Jersey Royals.

PeasTomatoes

Also English are the cabbages, such as Hispi. But of course asparagus is King, with prices reasonable and purple and white varieties available, too.

Extras

Borlotti beansEnglish salad

Borlotti beans always look gorgeous. Wet garlic and garlic scapes are both on trend. English salads are up and running, so shout this out loud on your menus.
